Nadi based professional Sam Lee is the top bet to take out the inaugural Dinesh Chand Invitational Pro-Am on January 20.

He is expected to face tough competition from Tomasi Tuivuna in the 18-holes event at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club.

Lee failed to qualify at the Asian Tour Qualifying School First Qualifying Stage in Thailand over the weekend.

He looks forward to compete with other local golfers like Abid Hussain and Munesh Prasad.

“Seventy golfers have already confirmed, with 15 professional as well and we expect total of 100 golfers,”tournament coordinator Amitesh Chandra said

“This is one day Pro-Am where professionals play for $3000 and amateurs play for some very attractive prizes worth $5000,” he said.

“Dinesh Chand is in the country to be part of the event. Chand is trying to develop golf in his home town of Nadi and giving back to the people of Fiji by sponsoring this golf event to promote the game.”

Chandra said the 14 women golfers confirmed are Sulu Brooks, Hae Sueng Kim, Edwina Peterson, Sunita Kumar, Selina Snelgrove, Cho Keumjoo, Suah Jung, Raina Kumar, Kim Seoyun, Lee Hyewon, Ann Dunn, Ravesi Konrote, Vani Eaton and Amy Subam.

Meanwhile, all golfers are invited and entry fee is $50 for members of DGRC and $100 for non-members and includes 18 holes of golf in shared cart, post round nibbles and drinks.
