Students of South Taveuni Secondary School have a reason to smile following the successful purchase of a piece of land for their playground.

The school committee recently made a down payment of $20,000 to Susie Estate, after the first $20,000 was made last year.  The total land cost is $90,000.

School manager and Vodafone South Taveuni Community Carnival committee chairperson Eric Narayan said this was possible through the success of a four-day carnival, which was held last November.

“The school didn’t have enough space for a playground. Hence, we bought a land beside the school,” Mr Narayan said.

“We have managed to make two payments and now we have $50,000 left to pay.”

Vodafone Fiji Limited north manager Arunesh Vishwa said Vodafone was proud to support the many communities across Fiji in their endeavours to benefit their localities.

“The carnival is a great platform to bring the people together and our purpose to serve the community was also achieved,” Mr Vishwa said.

“The gross proceed from the carnival was $25,000.”

The school that was established six years ago has a roll of around 230 from Year Nine to 13.
