Dirty tactics will not get anyone anywhere, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Mr Bainimarama said in Nadi that politicians who wanted to go down this path needed to be open about what their real intentions were.

He was responding to promises made by National Federation Party Leader Biman Prasad about giving away government’s share of 50 per cent in Air Terminal Services to the Air Terminal Services Employees Trust (ATSET), should his party win the upcoming elections.

“Biman Prasad said that they would sell the shares if they become government,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“For one thing, they are never going to become government because they don’t have enough numbers. They are good as Opposition, and hopefully they will get enough votes to get 2 or 3 seats again but they definitely will not make government.

“Biman said that when they make government they will take out government shares and give it to the union.

“How stupid can that remark be? Does he know what’s at the end of that? That means we are giving ATS to a monopoly which will also mean that if they want to walk out at any time, they will walk out.”

He said these types of tactics further confused and hurt Fiji as a whole.

“When people do things like this they hurt the economy. And there goes the tourism of Fiji, there goes the economy of Fiji. He doesn’t realise the kind of comments he’s making,” he said.

“People have got to get up and realise what the truth is. Where is the Fiji economy going to, if things like this happen?”
