Police Salute Public Help on Drug War

The war on drugs by the Fiji Police Force continues to gain momentum as members of the public show their support in eradicating the illegal trade from their communities, Police said in a statement.
Over the past few days, marijuana plants have been uprooted, parcels and sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana seized, and money believed to have been earned from the sale of drugs seized from the homes and farms of suspected dealers.
Yesterday, a team of officers from the Eastern Division conducted an early morning raid at Wailailai Settlement in Naibulini, Wainibuka in Tailevu where they had to cross a river and uproot marijuana plants, some measuring three metres in height.
In the Northern Division information received led to a raid at the home of a 47-year-old farmer at Nasavu Settlement, Bua, where sachets of substances wrapped in foil and dried leaves believed to be marijuana were seized on Monday.
In the Southern Division, again after information was received; a team from the Valelevu Police Station uprooted plants believed to be marijuana from a home in Newtown Settlement on Sunday.
Last Friday, a 47-year-old businessman of Malolo, Nadi, was arrested and charged after a raid conducted by Nadi Police resulted in the seizure of parcels of dried leaves and plants later confirmed to be marijuana.
These are just some of the arrests and raids conducted by officers throughout the four divisions and the momentum of our war on drugs continues to intensify as a result of the assistance shown by members of the public, which is very encouraging.
Police said any information was welcomed and they were urging the public to call Crime Stoppers on 919 or the following Command Centres if they have any information on the illegal drug trade.
