Training Camp Attracts Youths In Nadi

More than a hundred youths are expected to join a three-day national civic leadership training camp at Navoci Village, Nadi, today.
The training camp, organised by the Youths for Integrity Network is in partnership with Navoci Village Youth Council and the active support of the Tui Nadi, Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci and Nakovacake Development Trust.
Joseph Veramu, the workshop coordinator, said the camp was a follow-up to a series of workshops funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative.
He said: “The first goal of the leadership training camp is to inculcate the leadership values of integrity, transparency and accountability using cultural, spiritual and technology based competencies.
“The second goal is to inculcate intercultural interaction to enable participants to look beyond ethnic barriers and to engage with each other irrespective of race, colour or creed.”
The three-day event ends on Saturday.
A number of issues of special interest to young people such as mental health, COP23 climate change, relationship issues, will also be discussed.
Navoci Village Youth Council president Lewavai Uluinadi said: “We are happy to host the event.
“We thank the active supporters and sponsors and vanua o Nadi.”
Various agencies, including government and educational booths will be set up in the village by various service providers for participants and guests.
Dr Veramu also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the Western Division and the sponsors who have donated so generously to this event.
Apart from the formal training there will also be sports activities and a field trip to Denarau.
