Around 15 to 20 players will be contracted by the Fiji Rugby Union to make the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s squad for the 2017/18 World Sevens Series.

With the second cluster set for Sydney-Hamilton later this month, head coach Gareth Baber is close to finalising his list.

He will need to consider player-rotation with the busy sevens schedules with the World Sevens Series to end in Paris on June 9-10, Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April and the Rugby Sevens World Cup in San Francisco in July.

“When we put the contracts out we will be looking at probably 15 to 20 players because it is good number for us to train with,” Baber said.

He said 20 was a good number considering the amount of injuries that could be sustained by the players during the long season ahead.

“In situations where we could get three or four players being injured at one time, so we will have 14 or 15 of them training at one time.

He said they had finalised most of the names but they would be releasing them once confirmed.

“Most of the players will be pushing through for a spot this season and to be contracted into the team,” he said,

He said three of their injured players including Sevuloni Moceinacagi have recently rejoined the training squad.

However, some members of their extended squad are currently training with their provincial teamså for the Skipper Provincial Rugby 10s set for Bidesi Park tomorrow.

This includes playmaker Vatemo Ravouvou who will feature for Jack’s Nadi at halfback on Saturday.
