The Labasa football side are confident of winning the Pillay Garment’s Champion versus Champion series title for the third time at Churchill Park, Lautoka, tonight.

The Babasiga Lions face Lautoka in the return clash after their first game last Saturday ended in a 0-0 draw.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Labasa Football Association vice- president Varun Anand said despite training for three days, they’re confident to give the opposition a good run.

“Preparation for the side has been coming out quite well,” he said.

“We are aware that Lautoka is a champion side as they’re also the defending champions. So we are expecting a tough battle.”

Anand said they’re fortunate to have a few experienced players like Antonio Tuivuna, Amani Makoe, Akuila Mateisuva, Jale Dreloa and Ilisoni Logaivau in the side.

“We’ve 18 players among which around eight or nine are very experienced.

“Our aim is to win the CvC title for the third time. We’ve won it in 1992 and 2008, so we’re hoping to win it this year. The players are looking forward to the match.”

Anand also indicated that they would be naming their new coach next Monday.

“At this point of time we’ve former coach Bal Sanju Reddy assisting the side. I would urge all our fans to please come out in numbers to support the team as we will not be playing on our home ground. We know Lautoka will come hard on us but we’re ready for the battle.”
