Woman, 32, Admits To Being A Sex-Worker, Awaits Sentencing

A 32-year-old woman who admitted that she was a sex-worker will be sentenced on March 6, by the Suva Magistrates Court.
The woman appeared before Magistrate Deepika Prakash and pleaded guilty to one count of criminal intimidation.
She was drinking alcohol with some friends at an Apartment in Suva on December 13 last year between 6:30pm and 7pm when an argument broke out among them about a missing card.
The accused, who was blamed for the missing item, entered the hotel with a cane knife and threatened the receptionist and swung the knife towards her, however it missed her and landed on the gate.
A report was lodged at the Totogo Police Station and the accused was arrested and interviewed under caution.
In mitigation, the accused told Magistrate Prakash that she was unemployed and sought the court’s forgiveness.
Magistrate Prakash then questioned her on how she managed to support herself since she was unemployed to which she answered that she was a sex worker.
Her bail was extended and her case was adjourned for sentencing.
