Limited Number Justified: Bower

Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower said the limited allocated number of athletes for the Commonwealth Games was justified.
“We are given these limited spots and we have to live within those quotas because the level of competition requires that,” Bower said.
He said for some sports like weightlifting, they had to wait for the conclusion of the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila last month in order for their spots to be determined.
He said the planning for the Commonwealth Games was not something they started recently but after the last games in 2014.
Team Fiji and the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) are looking for athletes who have qualified for the Commonwealth Games.”
“We cannot accommodate everybody only the ones that have qualified, “Bower said.
However, Bower said Fiji’s sporting federations must endeavour to develop their sports base in order to be competitive in the Commonwealth Games as well as the Olympics.
