The University of the South Pacific has expanded its campus in the northern division dedicating a separate building for the Pacific Technical And Further Education (Pacific TAFE).

Executive director for Pacific TAFE Hasmukh Lal said the demand for TAFE had been growing steadily.

“We realise we cannot condense all our students in one place so we will have a separate building for TAFE,” Mr Lal said.

“We have the highest number of students in Labasa for TAFE (60%). The new centre will be internationally recognised.”

Mr Lal said they received over 2000 applications for TAFE every year.

“There is a significant increase in TAFE and a need for additional space to cater for the growth,” he said.

“We will introduce and diversify and bring quality programmes to the north.”

The new centre will be located at the Gurbachan Singh Mall and will open on February 2, 2018.

It will be officially opened by Vice-Chancellor and president of USP Rajesh Chandra.

There will be a TAFE roadshow at Gurbachan Arcade today from 10am to 1pm.
