The Lami football side walloped Nasinu 3-0 in the opening round of the Vodafone Women’s Senior League competition at Fiji FA Academy ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva, yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports, Lami coach/ player Eva Vocea said they were happy with the players’ performance.

“I thank the Almighty for his endless blessing and guidance on the team,” she said.

“To the parents of the players who came out in numbers to support us and this really boosted our morale to win the game today.

“I feel it is a great way for the side to start the season. Last year we were one of the top five teams in the league and this year our aim is to settle for third place and qualify for the women’s IDC, later in the year.

“Despite the win I think the girls still need to polish up on their basic skills and the need to know their role as defenders and strikers during play.

“The girls are aware of the tough level of competition when they play against Rewa and Suva in the pool games. I hope these girls continue to maintain their winning performance as the competition goes on.

“However, as a coach I wish to develop most of these young players as I feel most of them still need to be exposed to a higher level of competition.”

RESULTS

Lami 3–0 Nasinu, Navua 4–1 Rewa, Suva 1–4 Tailevu/Naitasiri
