Baber: Players To Play For Their Clubs
Fiji Airways Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber has confirmed that members of the national training squad will play for their clubs in this weekend’s Mana Whey Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament.
“There will be no official national team playing in the tournament,” Baber said.
The Welshman wants the players to play for their respective clubs and enjoy the moment with their friends.
“I’m hoping their presence will boost their clubs to try and win the tournament. It’s about helping their clubs in whatever way they can.
“I’ll be looking out for players that have the ability to play the game consistently at a high tempo and is accurate in what they do.”
“Also, he would be looking for players who have discipline and a high work rate in defence.
“Players who can make multiple tackles and quick to get back on their feet all throughout the game.”
Baber said all these required criteria that need to be met from not only players in their squad but also for those who were vying for a spot in the national team.
He earlier highlighted that he was always looking for potential talents wherever they could be found and roping them in for national duties.
The three-day tournament starts on January 17.
