Design Engineering Lautoka football striker Christopher Wasasala scored twice as they romped to a 5-1 win over Tavua at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw at halftime before they found their form in the second spell to win their Vodafone Premier League opener.

What happened: The first goal came in the 12th minute from a Wasasala drive from the left side of goal post.

But Tavua stunned the Lautoka fans when Manasa Drua netted the equaliser in the 27th minute.

Halftime: Lautoka 1-1Tavua

After the breather Lautoka bounced back when Tavua was penalised for a foul giving Praneel Naidu the chance to score from the penalty spot.

Wasasala, in the 57th minute, made it 3-1 with his second goal. The floodgates opened as Siotame Kubu and Samuela Drudru scored for Lautoka to seal the final score at 5-1.

Star turn: Wasasala played a grand game and his second goal sealed Tavua’s fate.

Comments- Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy said: “We could have played better if it had been dry weather.  “We made mistakes and Tavua equalised so we changed our tactic and it worked for us.”

Tavua coach Saroj Kumar said: “The weather was not on our side. I commend the players for their tireless efforts and we hope to do better next time.”
