Ba Football manager blames soggy pitch for their loss as they could not adapt on such surface

Striker Napolioni Qasevakatini was the toast of the Jack’s Nadi side as he scored twice in their 3-1 win over Ba at a soggy Prince Charles Park yesterday.

What happened: Hosts Nadi started their Vodafone Premier League opener on a high note. They settled in early and dominated possession but strikers Qasevakatini and Rusiate Matererega missed a couple of goal scoring opportunities.

They maintained on the pressure and in the 40th minute Qasevakatini rifled a low shot past Ba goalkeeper Misiwane Narube.

Nadi fielded seasoned campaigners of Mosese Balenagaga, Zainal Ali, and William Valentine, Ame Votoniu, Ilimotama Jese and Vereti Dickson.

Halftime: Nadi 1 – 0 Ba.

Nadi came back strongly in the second spell connecting their passes well before Qasevakatini extended their lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute. Ba immediately hit back in the 82nd minute when striker Samuela Nabenia slammed the ball past Dickson.

In the 87th minute it was defender Ame Votoniu who slotted in Nadi’s final goal.

Big play: Nippy Afraaz Ali was on song with his strong defensive play and his ability to counter attack.

Star turn: Qasevakatini has found his form and should be a player to watch in the competition.

Comments: Nadi FA president Javed Ahmed said: “We had targeted for a win and we know that Ba will be strong as they have been training for the O-league.
“There was a lapse in concentration which allowed Ba to score but we’ve won and the fans are happy.”

Ba manager Arvind Singh said: “I congratulate Nadi for the win. I don’t blame my boys due to the heavy ground conditions. My boys cannot play our pattern of football in this condition as we are not used to hit and run football.”
