Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) chief executive officer Jonathon Moore says the flooding caused by the heavy downpour in the Western Division on Sunday night has affected the Lautoka, Ba and Rakiraki areas.

During a press conference at the FRA office in Suva yesterday Mr Moore said as of the last 24 hours yesterday, Lautoka and Ba have been the worst affected right up to Rakiraki and Tavua.

He said water was receding from the road even though Ba River had risen from the high tide. He said the major concerns were Paipai crossing and other crossings near Lautoka.

“Contractors are dealing with this and we are looking at a more permanent solution in the future, a solution where it won’t be washed out.

“FRA teams were in the west assessing the damage on roads, bridges and would make sure that they give the latest information,” Mr Moore said.

A team of contractors are also on standby to move into areas that are in need of help.
