League title next for Lions

Newly crowned Pillay Garment’s Champion versus Champion series winners Labasa are now aiming to win the 2018 Vodafone Premier League title.

The Babasiga Lions beat Lautoka 1-0 at Churchill Park, last Friday night in their return clash after they drew 0-0 in the first encounter. Labasa FA president Rayaz Khan said yesterday they are confident of winning the Premier League title this year.

“We are working towards it,” he said.

The side are now preparing for their Premier League opener against Suva on Friday at 7.30pm at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

“The team starts training on Monday and we are expecting a full squad. We will be travelling to Viti Levu on Thursday to play two league matches and we are confident of winning.”

They are also trying to retain the services of interim coach Bal Sanju Reddy for the remainder of the season.

“Reddy is a school teacher in Savusavu and has applied for his transfer to Labasa and we’re hoping that he will get his transfer,” Khan said.

The side would be missing the services of Ilisoni Logaivau and Ashnil Raju due to suspension after being red carded in against Lautoka.
