Minister for Waterways Mahendra Reddy appeared in the High Court in Suva yesterday after the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) appealed his acquittal by the Magistrates Court.

Reddy, who was represented by Devanesh Sharma appeared before Justice Vincent Perera.

FICAC lodged an appeal in the High Court on December 7 last year against the judgment of Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili after he acquitted Reddy on one count of bribery and one count of undue influence.

FICAC lawyer Rashmi Aslam sought directions from the court to file written submissions on appeal and also requested the court to provide both counsels with the Magistrates Court records.

Reddy’s lawyer Mr Sharma agreed to have the court records issued first before both parties are given time to file their written submissions.

Mr Sharma also requested Justice Perera if his client could be excused on the next court date.

Prosecution did not advance any objections for the same.

The case was adjourned to February 9, 2018 for mention to check on the court records.
