Coach Gareth Baber will prepare two teams to play in three tournaments for the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team in April

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber is planning for a busy schedule in April.

Not only the team will be playing in the third cluster of the World Sevens Series in Hong Kong-Singapore, they will also compete in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The Seremaia Tuwai-captained team will aim to defend their title at So Kon Po on April 6-8 before heading to the Gold Coast to compete at the Commonwealth Games at Robina Stadium on April 13-17.

The team then heads home from Gold Coast before participating at the Singapore 7s on April 28-29.

Having three tournaments in a month, the Welshman aims to play his cards right.

“April will be a congested month for sevens and there will be a lot of travelling,”Baber said.

“We will take into account recovery and players need to rest properly.

“We will have an extended squad to train together and see how we can manage these two squads between Hong Kong and Commonwealth Games.”

Baber plans to have two different teams at these three tournaments.

“My intention to have mix squads and have two complete different teams. It’s always tough because we want continuity from the players as we move towards that and having two tournaments coming up,” he added.

“Preparing the squad, we got to take into account injuries and fatigue, it’s going to be a tough times ahead.”

The Fijians gears up for its first tournament in Sydney on January 26-28 followed by Hamilton 7s on February 3-4. The side will then head to Las Vegas on March 2-4 and Vancouver 7s on March 10-11.
