The Nadi Town Council will immediately address the drainage problem to counter flooding issues at Wailoaloa Road.

The heavy downpour encountered last Sunday in the Western Division also inundated the compound of Wailoaloa Beach Resort.

Council special administrator Robin Ali confirmed that the property owner had reached the council office to enlighten them on the issue.

Mr Ali said: “The property owner has notified us on this situation and we will look into it thoroughly but we have cleaned the drain by removing the debris.”

“However, we have spoken to the other development stakeholders nearby to have a collective approach to resolve the issues.

“We are waiting for a fine day so we can take our machinery to work on the drainage.”

Resort assistant manager Ashwini Chand said: “We had experienced heavy downpour on that Sunday afternoon and it affected us badly since water was at the shin level. It would flood previously, but this time it was more intense.”

Ms Chand also confirmed there was no damage caused to the property, but asked if relevant authorities could resolve this issue.

Questions and photos of the dilemma were forwarded to the Minister for Waterways Mahendra Reddy who will make a comment on the issue in the coming days.
