The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s sevens team needs to work extra hard  to  win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and the and the Melrose Cup at the   Rugby Sevens  World Cup in San Francisco in July.

The prominent South African referee Rasta Rasivhenge made  comment after arriving at Nadi International Airport yesterday for the Mana Whey Coral Coast Sevens which starts today with the Uprising Youth Sevens  at Lawaqa Park,Sigatoka.

Sharing his experience at the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014, Rasivhenge said he found that all teams were really tough and Fijians need to work  extra hard.

“I think they will be really good, the Commonwealth Games and Rugby World Cup Sevens will be pretty exciting.

“Fiji needs to work extra hard to win both tournaments.”

Ravishenge was happy to be back in Fiji and looked forward to be part of the Mana Whey Coral Coast Sevens tournament.

“I need to stretch my legs before we head over to Australia and New Zealand for the World Sevens Series.

“The Commonwealth Games and Rugby Sevens World Cup are all going to be about timing.

“It will be a massive year for everybody but you literally need to have two teams to play in these series so you have your best teams for the two tournaments,” he added.

So far Rasivhenge had been selected for the Commonwealth Games and still on the waiting list for the Rugby Sevens World Cup.

His selection to be part of the RSWC would depend on his performance in the next couple of tournaments.

Ravishenge said it was great to have young referees included as there was a need to build depth ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
