Yuan Wang III like other Chinese research vessels has been at the Suva Port the past few days to refuel and restock.

An official at the Chinese embassy in Suva confirmed yesterday that Yuan Wang will soon be on its ways once it’s done.

Yuan Wang ships are used for tracking and support of satellite and intercontinental ballistic missiles by People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of the People’s Republic of China.

Yuan Wang ship is not a single class of identical design, but instead, a group of different designs grouped under the same series that share one name.

Yuan Wang III ship has been in Suva since Monday. It is expected to depart today.

The vessel is the second generation tracking ship of Yuan Wang series, which is capable of attaining speeds up to 20 kt, with a range of 18,000 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 18 kt.
