The fire destroyed the old operating theatre and the x-ray unit

Arson has been ruled out in a fire at the Lautoka Hospital last month.

This was confirmed by the Divisional Police Commander West Acting SSP Abdul Khan yesterday adding that the report has been forwarded to the Ministry for Health.

The fire destroyed the old operating theatre and the x-ray unit.

Acting SSP Khan also confirmed the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

“We can confirm that arson has been ruled out.”

The fire, which happened at around 1.30am on December 5th 2017 saw the evacuation of all patients from the hospital into the car park.

The patients were assisted by nurses, hospital staff, soldiers, police officers, corrections officers and some members of the public.

The x-ray department is now closed after water damaged the x-ray machines and patients needing x-rays and are not that serious are now being referred to Nadi.

All Lautoka’s health centres, situated at Kamikamica Park in Rifle Rage, Cakau Street in Waiyavi and at Natokowaqa are now open till 10pm daily to cater for outpatients.

The centres are even open on Sundays.
