Basketball coaches attend Oz workshop

Two Under-15 national team coaches William Peter and Seini Samson are attending an International Basketball Federation (FIBA) funded coaches workshop which ends today in Aubury, New South Wales, Australia
Basketball Australia high performance coach development head Peter Lonergan is running the workshop.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to learn from someone of such high caliber and respect in the basketball community,” Peter said.
According to Basketball Fiji the programme will lead them through the practices and principles when coaching at an international tournament.
This will be a booster in terms of preparation for Peter (U15 boys coach) and Samson (U15 girls coach) building-up for the 2018 FIBA U15 Oceania Championship in Papua New Guinea in December.
“I’ve played and coached basketball for many years and I have a great passion, not only for the sport but also for the development of younger players.
“I’m looking forward to learning about the different ways to engage the young women and draw out their best performances in every game,” Samson said.
“I’m also grateful to have the opportunity to sit in a room with basketball coaches from across the Oceania region and learn from them. I’m looking forward to bouncing ideas, pushing boundaries and challenging myself in this environment.”
Basketball Fiji’s chief operating officer Laisiasa Puamau, said this was a great opportunity for Peter and Samson and also a great opportunity for the growth and development of their U15 programme.
