The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) and the Fiji New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Fiji bid team will be making an announcement soon regarding the progress of their bid.

This was confirmed by FNRL chief executive officer Timoci Naleba yesterday.

“There will be a joint announcement made by FNRL and the NSWRL soon once everything is in order,” Naleba said.

He was responding to questions sent by SUNsports regarding an email sent by NSWRL’s Fiji bid coordinator Petero Civoniceva.

The former Australian Kangaroos and Vodafone Fijian Bati prop is spearheading the bid to get a team comprising of local players into the NSWRL competition in 2019.

“I would like to express my utmost thanks and gratitude to the FNRL board for sending myself, including the NSWRL board, correspondence a week ago on Wednesday, January 10, 2018,” Civoniceva said.

He also confirmed they would be making a joint formal statement with the FNRL in the next few days.

“My team and I are gearing towards what is inevitably going to be a fantastic year ahead,” he said.

Both parties have not revealed the specific dates of the joint announcement, but Naleba indicated it would be some time soon.
