New Traffic Lights for 11 New Locations

Eleven new sets of traffic lights at 11 new locations are expected to be up and running by the end of April.
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said FRA was upgrading 11 sites with the equipment that recently arrived in the country. By the end of April, all around Suva, 11 sets of traffic lights will be in those locations.
He said with systems reaching obsolescence, the FRA had an active programme in place to replace all traffic and pedestrian lights throughout Fiji over the next few years.
“There’s a study ongoing right now that we need more traffic lights around the country and this will also help congestion,” Mr Moore said.
“We’re also planning to work on Lautoka this year.
“867 street lights will be installed between Lami and Sigatoka, not on the entire Queens Road, but near settlements in between villages and schools.
“These works are expected to be completed by June,” Mr Moore said.
In Nausori, 1600 street lights will be installed in settlement areas
In Navua, 124 lights will be installed by the end of February.
Works in Savusavu and Labasa will start by the end of
July.
For pedestrian crossing lights which are not working, warning signs have been installed and maintained to assure public safety.
