Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Joe Rodan Snr has called on for more funding to employ more full-time staff at the FASANOC office.

Rodan highlighted the challenges faced at FASANOC House yesterday while delivering his submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs. The submission was on FASANOC’s 2016 annual report.

“We really need full-time organisation staff and for that we need funding and FASANOC don’t have those funding,” Rodan said.

“We’ve already applied to Government on several occasions to provide us with full-time employment for the various federations but it has been rejected. We only have ten full-time staff and the rest are volunteers,”

As sports play a pivotal role in the country in terms of economic benefits, health and recreation Rodan was steadfast on his statement.

“We continue to apply to Government and where possible we try to work with the national federations to work with their own international sporting bodies for whatever funds they get from there to help at least employ one person to manage the administration.

“An example for athletics we’ve a full-time person working for us and this is funded by the International Athletics Federation they are now providing funds also for Fiji Rugby Union.

“For some sporting bodies they can’t provide that so in those cases we normally submit our submissions to the Fiji National Sports Commission. It’s crucial with FASANOC, for us to improve the standard of sports in Fiji, it’s very, very crucial, that we have full time staff,” Rodan added.
