Underground Transmission Circuit Fault Causes Unplanned Outage Affecting Power Supply To Parts Of The Central And Western Divisions

At 2:24pm yesterday, a fault on the 33,000volts underground transmission circuit between Fiji Electricity Authority’s Hibiscus Park Zone Substation (lower Reservoir Road) and Wailekutu Zone Substation (Lami) triggered a series of events.
It causing an unplanned outage to customers in parts of Pacific Harbour, Navua, Lami, Suva and Nasinu.
The fault also affected customers in parts of Nadi, Lautoka and Ba as the power system in Viti Levu is interconnected.
FEA chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said: “The FEA teams were able to restore power supply to all affected customers in the Western Division by 2:51pm.
“Power supply to majority of the customers in the Central Division was gradually restored from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.”
Transportation of power
The faulty cable transports power from the Hibiscus Park Zone Substation to the Lami, Naboro, Navua and Deuba areas up to Matanipusi.
“Our teams are currently working to restore power supply to the affected customers in Navua, Deuba, Pacific Harbour and Serua.
“Power supply to these affected areas is expected to be restored later tonight (yesterday).
“Customers in the Lami, Wailekutu, Naboro are still without power supply and will have their power restored once the underground cable fault has been located and repaired.
“At this stage the time for restoration of power to these affected customers cannot be established, however, the FEA teams will be working around the clock until supply is fully restored.”
The FEA sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to all valued customers due to this unplanned power outage.
