Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources, Faiyaz Koya said the organisation of informal settlements was one of the focus of his visit the Northern Division.

“I will be here for a week and will be part of the Prime Minister’s visit and secondly for the regularisation of informal settlements that we had been doing for quite some time,” Mr Koya said.

“The North needs attention and it is an important project. Basically that is what my visit is for. We will be back frequently because we never forget the North.”

He said he would have talks with farmers and residents of settlements.

“There are a few outstanding things and it is nice to be out in the settlements to receive issues they want to talk about. With respect to land issues we try to do what we can,” he said.

“We have had reduction in complaints in respect to land. Basically one of the most important things we are doing is with respect to informal settlement and it is something that is paramount on the top list for me.”

Mr Koya said it was a great opportunity to meet with his staff in the northern division.
