The Tavaita Rowati-coached Striders team took out the Crest Na Iri Trophy at the Mana Whey Fiji Coral Coast Sevens at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

The side beat Hong Kong 19-12 in the final. They won the Plate competition last year.

Striders tries came from Paulini Korowaqa, Roela Radiniyavuni and Talica Vodo while the visitors replied with a try each to Ka Man Nam and Ka Yan Chong.

“I am really proud for the win because we have been targeting this tournament for some time,” Vodo said.

“It was a tough battle in the final, hats off to the girls.”

Hong Kong captain Christy Cheng said, “We had our chance but it was a tight struggle. We are happy we scored in the end

“Playing Fijian teams is an eye opener. The crowd has been amazing and hopefully we will return in future,” she said.

Striders won $10,000 while HK received $2000 for its effort.

The Fijiana Makosoi won the Plate Final edging Snax Nadi Aviators 22-21.

Cup quarter-finals: Makosoi 10 -12 Hong Kong, Star USA 29-0 Hotspring Savusavu, Japan SDS 29 – 14 Snax Nadi Aviators, Striders 19 –7 Nadi Blazers.

In the Plate semi-final: Hotspring 0 Fijiana Makosoi 43, Snax Nadi Aviators 17 – 7 Nadi Blazers.
