The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) 2015 to 2019 Strategic Plan has set up the framework for capacity development in preparation for elections in Fiji.

The Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem said the FEO had already introduced the Polling Agents handbook last year to assist political parties in their capacity building programmes with their agents.

“We sent 1000 copies of the handbook to each political party for their distribution and use,” Mr Saneem said.

“The FEO also conducted direct training of political parties in the last quarter of 2017 to build capacity of party executives in terms of the electoral process and the legal framework.

“Out of the seven registered parties, five attended the workshops that I personally conducted.

“With this training, parties will be able to better understand the electoral process now than before,” Mr Saneem said.

FEO has registered a total of 624,404 voters compared to 607,350 in 2016 and 591,101 in 2014.

The highest numbers of registered voters are in the age group of 21 years to 30 as per the FEO’s findings.
