Salome Bikai of Nasesara, Moturiki, Lomaiviti, currently lives in Antioch, California, she flew across the Pacific Ocean to celebrate her 70th birthday and be part of the 40th anniversary here.

She graduated as a nurse at the age of 21 in 1969 and her first posting was at the Labasa Hospital. She moved to the US in 2001 and is a happy grandmother of one.

When she learned of the union’s anniversary celebration, she decided to join her friends and sisters.

“I was fortunate that my 70th birthday was at the same time as the anniversary.

“Today’s event is a memorable one. The nursing career has given me so many different memories and today was a beautiful memory added on.

“I really missed my friends and sisters and I wanted to meet them again because they always told me to come down and meet because they did not want to see me in a casket.

“I fulfilled their wishes and came down to take part, which is a huge milestone for the Fiji Nursing and Associate Credit Union. I am blessed to be a part of it.”

She said her nursing career had taught her many great lessons of life and she urged young aspiring nurses to always treat their patients as their own family members and care for them.
