Golden nurse reunites with sisters, friends

Salome Bikai of Nasesara, Mo­turiki, Lomaiviti, currently lives in Antioch, California, she flew across the Pacific Ocean to celebrate her 70th birthday and be part of the 40th anniversary here.

She graduated as a nurse at the age of 21 in 1969 and her first post­ing was at the Labasa Hospital. She moved to the US in 2001 and is a happy grandmother of one.

When she learned of the union’s anniversary celebration, she de­cided to join her friends and sisters.

“I was fortunate that my 70th birthday was at the same time as the anniversary.

“Today’s event is a memorable one. The nursing career has given me so many different memories and today was a beautiful memory added on.

“I really missed my friends and sisters and I wanted to meet them again because they always told me to come down and meet because they did not want to see me in a casket.

“I fulfilled their wishes and came down to take part, which is a huge milestone for the Fiji Nursing and Associate Credit Union. I am bless­ed to be a part of it.”

She said her nursing career had taught her many great lessons of life and she urged young aspiring nurses to always treat their pa­tients as their own family members and care for them.
