Police To Probe Death Of Man After Diving For Fish

Police are now investigating the death of a man who was out diving for fish with three other people on Saturday night.

A 42-year-old man is believed to have drowned while diving with three others.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the incident was a case of interest and Police were now waiting for the post mortem examination result when it is carried out this week.

The men, believed to be from Lautoka, were diving off a reef near Vomo Island on Saturday at around 7pm.

According to a Police report, the men were all on board their boat cleaning the fish when the victim, Peni Karainaivalu, jumped back into the sea.

After failing to surface Police said the other men on board – Ben, Rusiate and Jimilai – then jumped into the sea to look for Karainaivalu.

Karainavalu’s body was later recovered and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Police investigations are continuing.
