The Fiji Surfing Association (FSA) will be holding an up-skilling workshop for their coaches at the Beach House, Coral Coast, on January 27.

Fiji Surfing coach Ian Portingale said their coaches needed to be retrained in order to be re-accredited as coaches.

“They will need to be retrained to retain their accredited coaching qualification levels,” Portingale said yesterday.

The training workshop will focus on twenty Level 1 and Level 2 accredited coaches.

“At the moment we have 50 accredited coaches but we will be requiring 20 of them to attend this up-skilling training session.”

The programmes include coaches being updated on some latest techniques, methodology and technology. It also covers safety subjects on surf rescue, surf first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

“This is important because it will equip coaches with the necessary skills, technology and methodology to conduct training and also help and rescue their students should the need arises.”

Portingale indicated the training workshop was part of their annual programme.
