The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team quietly took to the Sigatoka sand dunes last week to boost their chances of winning the Sydney and Hamilton 7s tournaments.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by assistant coach Saiasi Fuli.

The Fijians are in tough Pool A where they face New Zealand, Samoa and Russia.

Speaking to SUNsports, head coach Gareth Baber said they have prepared to takes on whatever challenge that come their way and to fear no one.

“If we prepare correctly and manage ourselves in that preparation then I expect us to win,” he said.

He said their immediate goal is to do better from where they had left off in Dubai and Cape Town.

“We have areas of our game which we know can give that to us and we have to get them right,” he said.

“Winning tournaments is our ultimate aim and we will be looking for that.”

Baber said captain Seremaia Tuwai is a humble man, who is aware of what it takes to win at this level.

“I do expect senior players to lead but I also require some of the less experienced players to push themselves to deliver at the top level,” Baber said.

With the inclusion of speedsters Alosio Naduva and Avete Daveta, Baber says, he’s going to look at Waisea Nacuqu and Eroni Sau to set the pace.

“I believe we have two (Sau and Nacuqu) of the world’s best finishers on current form. It is not just about pace but also how to use it and your abilities in other areas of the game, like in the tackle situation and decision making. It take some players time for players to develop all of these.”
