Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) crew are upgrading 500 metres of Naqeledamu Village road in Tailevu that was previously only accessible by four wheel drives and vans.

Village headman, Mataika Tuicakau called it “a burden we have struggled with for more than two years”.

Naqeledamu is located off the Kings Road, 5.2 kilometres from Nausori Town and is home to 200 villagers.

FHH Rewa Depot supervisor, Ulaiasi Bolalailai, said the upgrade includes grading and resheeting of the road, as well as clearing of high shoulders.

“Before our work, the village had no direct access to transport. Villagers had to walk the 200 metres daily to get to work or school,” Mr Bolalailai said.

“When the work is completed later in the week, this will no longer be the case.

“The road work has brought us comfort and peace of mind. We have the Fiji Roads Authority and Fulton Hogan Hiways to thank for making our lives easier,” Mr Tuicakau said.

Fulton Hogan Hiways continues to work closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to provide road maintenance services for the Central, Eastern and Northern Divisions.
