First time for competition to be held in the West

Fiji’s young artists recently pitted their skills against each other when they attended an art camp for the Toyota Dream Car contest global competition.

The global competition was run by the Toyota Corporation and ASCO Motors, as local distributors for Toyota. Toyota has been running this competition for two years now.

ASCO Motors marketing officer Fiji, Rupert Boulton said this was the first time the competition was being held in the Western Division.

“This is basically to encourage young people to enhance their drawing talents and at the same time enter the contest,” he said.

This year Suva had 38 participants while last weekend 26 students in the West took part in the competition, which was held at Novotel Nadi.

“This is a slight increase in number from last year and we hope to increase it further next year.”

The drawings go into three categories with the under seven years, years eight to 11 and 12 to 15.

Each category will have three winners for the national finals and these names are submitted as Fiji’s entrants to the global competition.

Mr Boulton said each of Fiji’s winners would receive a hamper from ASCO Motors.

The winners in the global competition receive an all-expenses paid trip to Japan courtesy of Toyota and receive gifts.

Last year Opeti Chambers from Nadi Sangam School was one of the global winners and travelled with his father to Japan where they spent a few days.
