The fate of controversial FijiFirst Member of Parliament Balmindar Singh hangs in limbo, because he has defied orders from party leader Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to resign.

He was also asked by party general secretary Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to do the honourable thing and resign from the party.

Mr Singh, who faces court charges, has been the most controversial parliamentarian in recent times.

It is understood that his outright refusal to step down from the party as he faces charges ranging from alleged assault to alleged drunk driving and failure to supply sufficient breath analysis, has forced the party to look at options of dismissing him.

Mr Singh, who was in India for a parliamentary visit after which he was to attend a wedding in Amritsar, did not respond to several calls made on his personal mobile phone.

Previous efforts to get comments from him have also been unsuccessful.
