Fiji Airways Fijian 7s debutant Vasikali Mudu wants to set a benchmark for himself in the second cluster of the World Sevens Series in Sydney- Hamilton

The 23-year old is among the three players who will make their series debut in Sydney as from Friday. The others are Aloesi Naduva and Avete Daveta.

“I’ve been dreaming about this for a sometime and my time has come and thanks be to God for giving me the opportunity now,” Mudu said.

“If iam given the chance to play. I will definitely assist Fiji to win the tournament as that is our ultimate goal as a team.

“Playing 7s is a different ball game and will have to improve as competition for sports is tough.

“My parents have been supportive and I’m delighted to be part of this new experience playing with the people who I only watch on television.”

The Nadarivatu native has been part of the BLK Nadroga team in the local competition.

He was a member of the Ratu Navula College U18 team that won the Coke Zero Deans Trophy, a first for a school from the western division in 2013.

Mudu played a pivotal role scoring twice defeating Queen Victoria School 19-16 at the ANZ Stadium.

He was also part of the Senirusi Seruvakula-coached Fiji Airways Fijian Drua team that took part in the Australian National Rugby Championship 2017.

 

Proud Moment for Naduva

It has been dream come true for soldier Naduva.

He captained the Team Fiji rugby sevens at the Pacific Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu last month.

He missed out making the Fijian Barbarian 7s team late last year due to injury.

“This is a milestone achievement and a proud moment for me since this is my first time to play for Fiji in the series,” he said.

The Naweni, Cakaudrove native has proved himself playing for Army Green in the local competition.

Fiji plays their first game against Samoa at 8.28pm on Friday, Russia in th at 5.09pm on Saturday and New Zealand at 8.42pm. Cup final is at 9.48pm on  Sunday.
