Port Denaru Gets $700k Facelift

Extension work costing $700,000 is underway at the Port Denarau Marina, Fiji’s premium marina facility and the gateway to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.
The extension structure on completion will expand its passenger check-in facilities,
The extension aims to meet the demand of growing commercial requirements in view of the growth of the tourism industry in Fiji.
Port Denarau Marina’s decision to build this extension was related to its congested passenger terminal.
The terminal which was completed in 2009 houses 15 check-in kiosks. This kiosks have been booked to capacity
Baytex of Tauranga has provided a suitable architectural design build solution to meet both the Fijian building code and functional all weather requirements. The architectural design features a nautical theme of rigging and sailing. Occupying just over 365 square meters and situated on the entrance of the Denarau Marina commercial Jetty B, the secondary check-in tent is a striking distinctive feature of the marina.
The tent structure accommodates 16 check-in facilities for game fishing charters, day trips, island transfers and many other commercial operators berthed at the marina.
The new terminal extension represents yet another step in building a world–class tourism and transportation system. This compliments Denarau Marina’s fully occupied commercial berths. The structure is unique and the first for Fiji.
With tourism’s continued growth as Fiji’s major industry and further forecasted growth to achieve an industry worth $2.2bn target in 2021, Port Denarau Marina believes that this addition will allow stakeholders to serve the future of tourism in Fiji and the growth of commercial operators who call Port Denarau Marina home.
