A dog can be a man’s best friend says Police Constable Iowane Serunituacoko, 46, of Lovonivonu Village in Taveuni.

“The bond I share with K9 Conan is more than just being its handler. K9 Conan has been my best friend with whom I enjoy playing and talking to daily while at work,” Constable Serunituacoko said.

“K9 Conan is a two-year-old Labrador and gets very friendly, he loves to jump on me and gives me a hug and we can play throughout the day.”

Constable Serunituacoko said K9  Conan has been attached to him ever since they met six months ago in Wellington, New Zealand during training.

“I’ve had to always stay with K9 Conan because he barks whenever I leave for a break,” he said.

“K9 Conan and I have been sharing a very special bond. When I first met Conan, I was not very friendly with dogs. I was a bit hesitant to meet him because I was scared of dogs.

“Through our training sessions, I became very close with him and we started to share a close bond between each other.

“To me, K9 Conan is my best friend whom I love to play and spend most of my time with.”

During operations in Fiji, K9 Conan and Mr Serunituacoko have worked effectively in detecting  illicit drugs, currencies and fire arms.
