Four years of struggle caused by poor road conditions will soon end for farmers and villagers living and working along Naveiwalai Road, four kilometres outside Nausori.

“Thanks to the on-going upgrading work carried out by Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) which will improve accessibility, especially in rainy weather,” said the company’s Rewa Depot Supervisor, Ulaiasi Bolalailai.

The roadworks specialist company will grade and compact the surface of Naveiwalai Road, with particular attention to a two-kilometre section at the far end of the road that needs to be widened from three to five metres.

Mr Bolalailai said the overgrown grass has not only narrowed the road, it has also made the section slippery and dangerous to drive on in the rain.

“Farmers have to carry their produce from the end of the road for two kilometres before they can access a carrier or a 4-wheel drive to get to market,” he said.

Fulton Hogan Hiways, working closely with the Fiji Road Authority, has completed the drainage and the removing of high shoulders, and will continue to upgrade and provide road maintenance for the Central and Northern Divisions.
