The story and photo of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka shaking hands have attracted positive response.

Mr Bainimarama and Mr Rabuka hugged and shook hands at Mr Rabuka’s village, Drekeniwai, Cakaudrove, on Friday.

Fiji Sun letter writer A. Shariff Shah, of Shah Group of Companies, said: “It was a delight to read and see the pictures of our two leaders shaking hands and enjoying while at Drekeniwai village.

“Please bury the past and join hand in hand in moving this great yet beautiful nation forward. After all, we all belong to this nation.”

Another letter writer, Amenatave Yaconisau, of Delainavesi, on the outskirts of Suva, said: “Such friendly approach is good for stability.”

Mr Bainimarama was in Drekeniwai to commission a solar project for the local school.

Mr Rabuka was a member of the village welcoming party which accorded Mr Bainimarama a full traditional welcome ceremony.

Mr Rabuka presented the tabua (whalestooth) during the iQaloqalovi ceremony. It was an emotional and powerful presentation, and he spoke in the local dialect.
