The luxurious and world renowned Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa at Denarau will undergo a $30 million upgrade and refurbishment.

This is the first upgrade done on the resort since it opened its doors in 2005.

For Sofitel, French sensibilities and style is what sets it apart in a destination spoilt for choice.

The resort’s new general manager Vincent Macquet said while keeping Sofitel’s image was important, the new upgrades and refurbishment would take them up to another level.

“The upgrade will begin in the next few months,” Mr Macquet said.

“Basically our board has decided it was time to upgrade the property and to bring it to the next level.

“The aim of the exercise here is the refurbishing of the entire hotel room inventory.”

About the upgrade

Mr Macquet said this included the unique Waitui Beach Club which is only three years old.

“We believe that it is time to bring the number one beach club in Fiji to the next level.

“We are refreshing the whole concept in the refurbishment, so that we can bring the resort in line with today’s well travelled guests who have very high expectations.

“Fiji above all else is a luxury family or couple destination and what we are saying is our expectations will be in line with what the clients want.

“We have never done any refurbishment since it opened on this scale and we are excited.

“Every work carried out will cater for every aspect of the experience.”

One of the major draw cards at each hotel and resort is the ‘kids club’ and this has become a hit with many of this tourist destination in Fiji.

Mr Macquet said they wanted their kid’s club to be the best in Fiji and this was one area that was being looked back in the upgrading works.

“Today we have a standard kids club for children.

“Our view on that is the kids experience should be important as much as that of adults.

“Here we have the Waitui Beach Club destination for adults and we want to create the same thing for kids.

“For the kids, the beach experience will see multiple zones to meet families needs from toddlers to the age of 12.

“The 296 beach facing rooms would be totally renovated in line with a true luxury angle to get it in line with travelled guests.”

Mr Macquet said he could not reveal the upgrading of the rooms would be like.

“It’s not only exciting for me but also for the entire team here at Sofitel.

“This is especially for those who have been with the hotel since it opened.

“We have got some exciting new food and beverage concepts.”

The resort is famous for its long, lazy beachfront location, swaying palm trees and romantic sunsets.
