The Vunitavola rugby team walked away $200 richer after winning the Rewa Rugby Union 10s competition at Burebasaga Primary School, yesterday.

Vunitavola defeated Lomainasau 12- 5 to win the main prize-money while the run­ners-up walked away with $100.

Union manager Sakiusa Secake congratu­lated the Vunitavola team for the win.

“It has been a tough competition, with 24 teams from all across the province and oth­er invitational teams as well,” Secake said.

“We want to thank all affiliated clubs and their supporters for turning out in big numbers for the tournament.”

He said the tournament was also a prepa­ration for their clubs as they prepare to head into their weekly club competition.

“Also we want to prepare our provincial players for the tough season ahead, as this is our first year back in the Skipper Cup competition.”

He said this year they just wanted get their provincial team established in the Skipper Cup competition and developing their players at the same time.

“We are trying to get as much game time for our players, for both our provincial and club players.”

The Rewa Rugby Union will have another 10s tournament next week but this time specifically for the 16 clubs in their Union.
