More Support For Fiji 7s Bid

Congo Waimanu Rugby club advisor Waisake Bose said hosting a World Sevens Series tournament would benefit overseas teams just much as it would benefit Fiji.

The 88-year-old rugby club is one of the oldest clubs in the country.

“It is not only us that will benefit but the other teams in the World 7s Series too,” he said.

“I mean the atmosphere of playing here in Fiji is different from oany ther parts of the world because this is the home of sevens.”

He said it would be a win-win situation for Fiji Rugby and the overseas teams.

“While here it gives them a sense of positivity that’s sevens and is not just a sport in Fiji, but a lifestyle that everyone is passionate about.”

Bose said they could also be able to scout for local talents while being here.

“Who knows on their way to their camps they could be coming across some local tournaments, where if they might just decide to watch for a few minutes and during that time, some players could be playing to their liking.

“Also they would be able to understand what the 7s game means to the people of Fiji, which could inspire them to be better players.”

And in the same process, Bose says, local players could also be exposed and identified by these teams.

“Exposure means opportunities and opportunities mean a chance for a better life for our local players.”

REWA RUGBY

The Rewa Rugby Union is supporting Fiji Rugby Union’s (FRU) 7s bid to host a World Sevens Series tournament.

Rewa Rugby manager Ratu Sakiusa Secake said this would be ideal especially for a 7s super power nation like Fiji.

“Why not, this is Fiji and having a world 7s tournament would be great for the game and for the fans,” Ratu Sakiusa said.

He was reiterating what Rewa Rugby president Ro Filipe Tuisawau had earlier stated that bringing a tournament to Fiji would really boost the development of the game.

They have also joined other international players like Australian Wallaby Henry Speight and Fijian 7s maestro Waisale Serevi in supporting the bid.

Ratu Sakiusa said for the time being they would be continuing with their preparations for the upcoming Skipper Cup competition. Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor earlier stated that they wanted to go to World Rugby confident that they have the support of all Fijians.

“We want to go to World Rugby and say that the whole of Fiji is supporting our 7s bid, so the more the better,” O’Connor said.

He urged members of the public to go online and show their support. If interested then log in to www.Fijifor7s.com to register, the more registration, the better the chances of the bid.
