Plight Of Students Transport Tops Talanoa Session

Parents and guardians of Vuadomo Village in Savusavu raised their concerns during a talanoa session with the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his delegation during his Northern Division tour last week.
To their delight Mr Bainimarama encouraged villagers to be bold and talk about their grievances.
”Feel free to ask us anything so that we can clear your doubts. We are all here for you. Few ministers and different department heads are here to answer your questions,” he said.
Setareki Wainiu said the welfare of students from the village was their main concern.
“There are 38 students from this village and they walk for about 30 or 45 minutes to the main road to catch the bus,” Mr Wainiu said.
“We hope that a bus could come right to the village and pick our students up, especially those in primary schools.”
A local bus company representative Naisa Tuinaceva said he was talking with Fiji Roads Authority to improve conditions on two bends on the road that leads to the village which is making the road dangerous to travel on.
He told the government delegation and villagers that buses stopped on the main road because it was dangerous to travel to the village and drivers took into consideration the safety of the students.
