UniFiji Aims for International Accreditation for All Programmes

A big year for University of Fiji has been planned with intentions of moving towards external accreditation.
Last year, the University initiated internal reviews for all its five schools; School of Humanities & Arts, School of Science & Technology, School of Business and Economics, Umanand Prasad School of Medicine and School of Law which were done by external Universities to identify the state of institutional readiness for external accreditation.
According to UniFiji Vice Chancellor Professor Prem Misir, all internal reviews have been completed and they have located some deficiencies in the university which they are in the process of correcting.
“We intend to move towards external accreditation of all the programmes offered at the University. The internal reviews have been completed, we want to see what deficiencies exist in our pedagogy, the curriculum and quality of tertiary education,” Professor Misir said.
“It is important for us to determine whether we are in a state of institutional readiness for international accreditation.
“By and large the internal reviews are fairly ok, there are some deficiencies, clearly not everything is picture perfect and we are in the process of correcting those deficiencies.”
Professor Misir added though the university is small they aimed at getting all their schools fully accredited internationally.
“The advantage we have is that we are small we have more complexity and with that we want to give all that students the best education and the best quality education,” he added.
“If we are internationally accredited, when students earn a degree from this university the international community will recognise it as we have accreditation.”
