Tears of joy was all you could see in Beniamino Koto’s eyes  yesterday when he was inducted as headboy of Labasa Muslim Primary School.

The 14-year-old son of a yaqona farmer Apolosi Ibe at Line Point, Labasa, said he was the first of five siblings in the family to be inducted as headboy.

“I always wanted to make my parents proud and I thank the Lord for making my dream come true,” the aspiring aircraft engineer said.

“I knew I would be the headboy because the school has a trend where last year’s deputy headboy will be automatically inducted school’s headboy.

“Looking after a student roll of 140 from Year One to Year Eight and assisting 13 teachers will be challenging but I am ready for it

“I follow one principle and I will try to instil that in the school system and, that is to do the right thing at the right time, at the right place. If we follow this simple principle, then there won’t be any discipline problem.”

Newly-inducted headgirl Umme Hakim, 13, said she was not surprised about the induction.

“My two siblings had been a headboy and headgirl of a school before and with their support I will be able to perform my role and duties well,” the aspiring doctor said.

“I value respect above all and this is something that I will encourage.”

Thirty-four prefects were inducted during the ceremony at the school.
