Fiji elite lifters train in Noumea

A team of four elite weightlift­ers and national coach Joe Vueti have left for New Cal­edonia to attend a week-long train­ing camp in Noumea.

The four athletes are Apolonia Vaivai, Manueli Tulo, Poama Qaqa and Taniela Rainibogi will be train­ing with Eileen Cikamatana at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in Mont Dore.

They are among the 42 Pacific Mini Games gold medallists who are in a special training camp.

Our athletes will train with 20 institute lifters plus the top lifters of Samoa, Fiji and New Zealand for from eight days fine tune their preparations for the Common­wealth Games.

Of the lifters taking part in this elite training camp at the Insti­tute, quite a number of them are ranked first and second in the Com­monwealth. Apart from Paul Coffa who coaches the 20 resident lifters of the Institute (from different is­land nations), three of the leading coaches of the region, Jerry Wall­work from Samoa, Vueti from Fiji and Tina Ball from New Zealand are in Noumea coaching their own athletes who have qualified for the Games.

Coach Joe Vueti said, “Our prepa­rations are on track and we’re us­ing this week to change our train­ing environment before we come back and start on the second phase of training.”

This elite training camp is finan­cially supported by the IWF and our athletes also supported by Fiji National Sports Commission.
