Brave Sabrina

Dorine Narayan, Suva

I have all praises for Sabrina Iqbal Khan and admire her strength, courage and passion for what she did as per recent media highlights.

You are a great inspiration not only to the women but to society as a whole.

Amen to Philippians 4.13.  It is about time people creep out of their comfort corners and fight against domestic violence rather than being bystanders.

Brave lawyer

Dhirendra Prasad, Lautoka

I refer to a report in the Fiji Sun dated 29/01/18 titled ‘Lawyer Wins Praise For Saving Woman From Violent Man’.

My salutations to the writer for highlighting such an inspirational personality in our society.

A woman of such calibre should be commended and, recommended to become an inspirational ambassador for our students.

In this era of modernisation, where vulgarity is given more popularity, personalities such as Sabrina Khan are pearls.

She has demonstrated that with determination, and God as her savior, she can handle any situation. Reading her profile makes us ponder what kind of personalities we are.

There are many who would stand and watch, some even stoop so low that they will take pictures for posting on social media.

Fiji should be proud of such a personality and use her expertise to enrich our young minds on the much needed values to change perceptions of violence against women.

Keep it up, Fiji Sun!

Continue to highlight more of our pearls among  the thorns in our society to prove that nothing is impossible!

Fijian 7s

Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Suva

Let’s be frank!

We Fijian 7s supporters are not happy that our national team ended up in 5th place in the overall points table after the Sydney 7s.

We are disappointed especially after being told by the team management that our team was  prepared to win the first tournament in the 2017/18 HSBC Sevens World Series.

We were further told that our Fijian 7s team will be building up to win the elusive Commonwealth Games gold medal and also the Sevens World Cup.

Is this the performance to be expected from a team gearing up for the Commonwealth Games?

As die-hard Fijian 7s supporters, we know that they were starved of the ball and just did not click, losing to USA and then to New Zealand later in the plate final.

We know in our hearts that when our boys do not perform to expectation in one tournament, they rise with the magic of Fijian sevens rugby at its best in the next leg the following week.

Let us hold our breaths and give our Fiji 7s team the chance to get their act together and to make up for their below par performance in Sydney by winning the cup in Hamilton, New Zealand, this weekend.

If the result turns out to be the same, then the FRU should wake up and do a clean-up with a new-look Fiji sevens team and management.

We still have faith in our boys to turn things around in Hamilton this week.

Go Fiji Go!

FNPF/FRCS joint card

Jonas Bradburgh, Makoi

Did the people who approved the design of the Joint FNPF/FRCS Card comprehend how relevant the design would be to the ordinary people?

It should also have had the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) number and date of birth. To sight the FNPF Number we now have to use UV Light.

Previously FNPF Cards carried weight for identification purposes. These days even to receive money from foreign exchange outlets they will ask for birth certificates if we are presenting the joint card.

I wonder if new members under the new joint card can remember their FNPF numbers?

On a brighter note thank you FNPF for buying 4.99 shares of Bank South Pacific.
